Consultant Surgeons
Mrs Pape and Mr Varma
Mrs Pape and Mr Varma are Burn’s Consultants for both the Adult’s and Children’s Burns services. Mrs Pape is the service lead for the Newcastle upon Tyne Burns Service. Mrs Pape and Mr Varma provide acute surgical care for people who have recently sustained a burn injury, as well as reconstruction and scar management for those people who need it in the longer term.
Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist
Louise Johnson
Louise works as part of the Scar Review Team, and provides long term support around managing scars after a burn injury. Louise also leads the team of physiotherapists that you might meet on the ward or after discharge.
Clinical Specialist Outreach Nurse
Alison McKenzie (Paediatric) Sue Nicolson (Adult)
Sue and Alison are also members of the Scar Review Team, and provides support around dressings, wound care, and scar management when you are discharged from the ward.
Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist
Fiona Toland-Mitchell
Fiona is a member of the Scar Review Team, and provides support with activities of daily living, providing adaptations where this is required. Fiona also provides long term support around managing scars after a burn injury.
Clinical Psychologist
Sara Heary (Paediatric) Bridie Grant(Adult)
Clinical Psychologists help people deal with the emotional impact of their injury. For example, learning how to cope with a change to appearance or difficult memories related to the trauma of the injury. Alongside Bridie, we have another Clinical Psychologist and an Assistant Psychologist who provide support for people both when they are on the ward and when they leave hospital.
