Burns Nurse Specialist
Louise Campbell
Louise is the Burns Nurse Specialist in the children’s burns service. She works to improve patient experience and enhance patient care throughout the burn service.
Louise is a Sister on the burns ward with a specialist interest in burns. She works to improve patient experience and enhance patient care throughout the burn service. She joins the team in theatre and co-ordinates the operating lists and multi-disciplinary meetings. She runs a nurse-led burns dressing clinic and assesses new burns referrals and follows up patients. She teaches and mentors junior staff. Louise is also a Burns Link Nurse, for the Northern Burn Care Network. Her role involves developing a collaborative programme for the treatment of minor burns by liaising with staff in Accident and Emergency Departments, Walk in Centres, and the prison service. She provides teaching and training in the care of minor burn patients to improve standards in burns care and to improve referral patterns into burns units.

As the lead therapist Rachel leads a team of physiotherapists and occupational therapists who provide physical and occupational therapy. The therapy team also run dressings and scar review clinics and attend multi-disciplinary team review clinics.

Clinical Psychologists help people deal with the emotional impact of their injury. For example, learning how to cope with a change to appearance or difficult memories related to the trauma of the injury. We can also provide support to families and/or carers of people with a burn injury. Additionally, we can arrange places at the Burns Camp run by Manchester.
Consultant Paediatric Plastic Surgeon
Ms Sian Falder
Ms Falder is the lead consultant surgeon in the children’s burns service. She will link in with the surgeons at Whiston hospital if further treatment is needed when you are an adult.
Sian Falder has been a consultant in burns and plastic surgery since 2008. She qualified in Medicine from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School (now part of Imperial College) in 1992 and obtained a First Class degree in the History of Medicine. She trained in plastic surgery in Bristol and Merseyside obtaining the specialist qualification in plastic surgery FRCS(Plast) in 2005. She also holds a Diploma of Tropical Medicine. Sian undertook a fellowship year of training in burns in Australia. She is the Lead Clinician for the Burn Service and is a member of the British Burn Association research special interest group and the National Burn Standards Committee. She has published a number of academic papers. She leads Alder Hey’s partnership with Kanti Children’s Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal and works with Interburns charity.
Specialist Areas include burns surgery and scar reconstruction, general plastics and medico-legal child protection work.
